Commentary:

You get one sentence per word balloon. If you have two sentences you have to connect them with a little thing. Of course, if you have really long run on sentences like the ones in the top panels then it just takes up a bunch of space and it’s hard to read. But if there’re a bunch of little word balloons, one or two words each, then they can take up even more space because you space them out even more.
